Pointe of Art

Each year Carmel Sunset Rotary Club supports The Pointe of Art, a reception and auction to benefit Monterey Peninsula Ballet Theater Scholarship Program. Local artists are paired with ballet students to create original art for the auction. This year I was honored to one of those artist.

I was inspired by ballerina, Cecilia Yu, and her solo ballet performance to La Bayadere. Cecilia and I met and spoke about her desires for the future. She would like to become an engineer. I blended her two passions in The Dance; fabric from her pointe shoes and sheet music from La Bayadere, and physics formulas for trajectory and momentum, dancing with the brush strokes of the painting.

The auction was hosted by Bennet Sculpture Gallery and Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery.

Hearts of Carmel

The Carmel Chamber of Commerce sponsored a public celebration of public art called The Hearts of Carmel. Six three dimensional heart sculptures were painted by local artists and displayed in public areas around town.

My friend and fellow artist, Nicole Cromwell and I were honored to be selected to paint a heart we titled Wild Beauty. On August 15th the hearts were unveiled in a ceremony that moved through the streets of Carmel. You can find our heart at Devendorf Park, at the corner of Junipero and Ocean Avenue.
